Welcome to the RCS Family and to our 4K Early Childhood program. We believe each child is created by God and has unique abilities, needs, learning styles and personalities. It is a privilege to help your children explore and experience the world around them, and we pray that the school year will be a rewarding experience for both you and your child(ren). Please feel free to contact any of the school staff if you have questions, concerns or comments to improve our program.
Racine Christian School (RCS) was founded in 1929. Our heritage is closely tied to the Reformed faith although our current enrollment includes families from nearly 40 denominations. RCS is a Christ-centered 4K-8th grade school, teaching biblically-based beliefs and behaviors. We are a parent-controlled institution governed by a board chosen by the Racine Society for Christian Instruction.
No student will be denied admission to RCS because of race, color, sex, or national origin. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, with preference given to families currently enrolled in RCS. Enrollment will be capped at 15 students. RCS accepts a limited number of students through the Racine Parental Choice Program, with applications beginning on February 1st, 2022. Children must be four by September 1st of the current year to enroll.
The 4K class will meet 9:00-11:45 AM, Monday through Friday.
At RCS, we educate the whole child: spiritual, physical, social, mental and intellectual. In 4K, we maintain a balance of work and play, with individual and group activities. Each day your child will engage in large motor activities, art, music and movement activities, free play, learning centers, circle time and so much more. We also learn through field trips, and classroom visits from community leaders. Every aspect of our curriculum is taught from a Christian perspective, and students are encouraged to grow in their love for God by serving and showing kindness to classmates and others. Parents will receive a weekly classroom newsletter to know what skills will be emphasized each week. In addition, parents receive a weekly “Paw Prints”, which is an all-school publication that will keep you connected to all school events and important announcements.
Bible –Students learn God’s redemptive plan using both Old and New Testament lessons.
Math—Math principles are learned both formally and in play. Concepts such as size, shape, measurements, sequencing, compare & contrast, patterns and more are introduced.
Reading—Each day students hear books read aloud and have opportunity to act out and create their own stories.
Handwriting-Using hands-on tools and workbooks, students focus on developing proper grip, writing their names, and formation of letters, making handwriting fun and age-appropriate.
Science/Social Studies— Through designed units on community helpers, holidays, living things, seasons and student-led questions, we build an awareness of the world around us.
Art/Music— Art and music are woven into other learning opportunities, with projects exploring different media. Children enjoy acting out stories, dramatizing movements, singing favorite songs and using classroom instruments.
Physical Education– Students have opportunity for daily movement and exercise, indoors and outdoors, developing social skills, space awareness, self-regulation, and overall health.
