Introducing…the Racine Christian School Extended Learning Center!

Alison
Mrs. Alison Van Ee joined the RCS team last year as a PE teacher and is also serving as the 5-8th “Resource teacher/ELC teacher.” Before joining the RCS staff, she taught overseas for 2 years in a 5th grade classroom and more recently has subbed in Kenosha, often for special education or English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers. Mrs. Van Ee says, “I’m looking forward to being a “resource teacher/ELC ” at RCS. I enjoy helping students learn more about themselves and the things in this world. As a teacher, it’s my job to guide students to see their strengths and use them to work through challenges.” A favorite Bible verse is, Joshua 1:9 - “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This verse reminds her to have faith and be courageous though any present situation because God is with us.

Debbie
Mrs. Debbie Jenks is excited to be working for Racine Christian School as the new Elementary Resource Teacher in the ELC. She has worked as a special education teacher and tutor in Racine and in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where her family lived for six years. She believes every child can learn the skills and facts they need, but some need help to figure out how they learn or to have the material presented in a variety of ways. She loves that challenge and enjoys watching kids get a difficult concept or connecting them with a good book or resource that they can use.

Mrs. Jenks has been married to Stephen for 23 years, and they have two girls. Many of her favorite verses are in Philippians 4, including reminders to rejoice always, think on what is true, know God’s peace, be content, and remember that “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” verse 13.
Racine Christian School is excited to open the Extended Learning Center (ELC) this year with Mrs. Jenks serving as academic support for K-4 and Mrs. Van Ee serving as academic support for grades 5-8.

What is the ELC?
The ELC is an academic support program for the classroom. The instructors in the ELC will work both in the regular classroom as well as working one on one or in small groups with students who are needing additional help with their schoolwork.

How does a child qualify to be in the ELC?
Parents whose children are experiencing academic struggles may consult with the classroom teacher about getting assistance from one the ELC teachers. Teachers may also suggest to parents that a child would benefit from ELC assistance.

Where is the ELC?
Mr. Tim Joosse dedicated hours and hours this summer converting the former computer lab into the ELC. The room has multiple desks and work stations for students to do their work. It is a great new learning space for RCS!
