The Racine Christian School Wide Progressive Discipline Plan provides behavioral expectations and procedures that are designed to be in harmony with the infallible Holy scriptures, that are “God-breathed and [are] useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness”(2Timothy 3:16). RCS will maintain a firm, fair, and consistent system for handling behavioral infractions, as a means of love, training and spiritual growth meant not to be punitive, but rather corrective, teaching valuable lessons and guiding towards righteousness.
Students at RCS will abide by the following School-wide Behavioral Expectations as based on Scripture:
I will treat everyone with kindness and respect. (Eph. 4:32,1John 4:7)
I will keep my hands and feet to myself.(Gal. 5:22-23)
I will not use inappropriate language toward anyone. (Gal. 5:22-23)
I will never tease, cause harm, name-call, or bully another student. (Gal. 5:22-23)
I will follow the principles of Matthew 18:15-17, when dealing with conflict with others. I will conduct myself with honesty and integrity. (Eph. 4:25 and Luke 16:10).

Level 1 Behavioral Infraction Procedures
Level 1 Behavioral Infractions include:
- Inappropriate language
- Physical contact (unwanted physical contact ie. horseplay) Non-compliance
- Dress code violation
- Class disruption (ie. excessive talking)
- Lying
- Inappropriate use of school property (ie.computer misuse) Cell phone violations
- Non-water drink use
- Gum use
Level 1 behavior infractions will be handled by the classroom teacher in accordance with their classroom discipline plan. (Each individual classroom teacher will send their classroom discipline plan home to parents). To ensure students demonstrate appropriate behaviors in the classroom, procedures and routines will be frequently modeled and practiced.
If the behavior persists, the classroom teacher must:
1. Conference with the student
2. Document the behavior by completing a discipline notice form 3. Contact the parent
4. Give it to the office who will send home the discipline notice
Other behavioral consequences and interventions could include, but not limited too:
1. Meeting with the parent
2. Lunch detention (Only administrators can assign lunch detention) 3. Time out from classroom
4. Student behavioral intervention plan
5. Restitution
Once a student accumulates three Level 1 infractions within a quarter, the classroom teacher can send the student to the office with a discipline referral to conference with an administrator.

Level 2 Behavior Infraction Procedures
Level 2 behavior infractions or students reaching a habitual discipline Level 1 will receive an immediate referral to the office to conference with an administrator. An administrator will contact the parent to discuss the incident.
Level 2 Infractions include:
Abusive/Inappropriate language toward a staff member Aggressive physical contact (ie. shoving, choking, injuring) Disrespect/Insubordination
Classroom disruption/tantrums
Verbal altercation between students Theft
Habitual discipline issues
PDA
Lying/Academic dishonesty
Possible consequences and interventions could include, but not limited too:
Loss of privileges
Required parent conference
Restitution
In-Class behavioral supports Out of school suspension

Level 3 Behavior Infraction Procedures
Level 2 infractions that are consistently repeated will become Level 3 infractions. Students committing Level 3 behavior infractions will be immediately sent to the office with a teacher referral and their parent(s) will be contacted by an administrator. Level 3 infractions will receive an immediate suspension for a specific period of time and possible expulsion:
Level 3 Infractions include:
- Bullying/Threats
- Alcohol/Drugs/Tobacco
- Immoral Conduct (ie. sexual references, exposure) Vandalism/Tagging
- Arson
- Weapons
- Fighting
Other possible consequences and interventions could include:
Loss of privileges Restitution

Cafeteria Expectations
Students will:
-Listen and be respectful to all cafeteria staff members -Keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves
-Eat their OWN food
-Not throw food
-Clean up after themselves
-Respect others’ personal space
-Raise hand for assistance
-Talk using an inside voice (NO screaming)
-Generally stay seated

Hallway Expectations
Students will:
- Be quiet while walking in the hallway
- Not be a distraction from others learning

Restroom Expectations
Students will:
- Use restroom facilities appropriately and keep the restroom clean
- ALWAYS flush the toilet after use
- Wash their hands after using the toilet
- Not horseplay in the restroom
- Return immediately to their classroom after using the restroom

Playground Expectations
Students will:
- Use equipment properly
*No dunking or hanging on basketball hoops
- Get on and off equipment carefully
- Only go up the ladder and down the slide
- Not jump off the swing sets when moving
- Return all equipment to the box at the end of recess
- Share space on the field with other students when playing
- Always follow the rules of the game and wait their turn to play
- Wear appropriate snow attire to play in the snow (ie. elementary: snow
boots and pants, MS: snow boots)
- NOT throw snowballs, snow, or ice

Arrival Expectations
Students will:
- Not be allowed to come through the front entrance until 8:45am
(Unless attending before school care)
- Walk on the sidewalks and NOT on the landscaping
- Not climb on any trees on the school campus
- Follow school-wide behavior rules when waiting for the gate to open

Dismissal Expectations
Students will:
- Leave the school campus immediately, unless they are participating in an
afterschool activity
- Walk on the sidewalk and stay off the landscaping -Not climb on any trees on the school campus

Anti-Bullying Policy
It is the responsibility of all staff, students, and community members of RCS to ensure our school is a safe, caring place where everyone is respected and no one is bullied.
Bullying occurs when someone REPEATEDLY, with words or actions, hurts, frightens, or threatens.
Students who believe that they have been bullied, or see others bullied should IMMEDIATELY report to a teacher, or another staff member....following Matthew 18:15-17 as a guide.

Dress Code Policy
At RCS our focus is on understanding God and His world through our educational process and avoiding distractions that might hinder us in this focus. In light of this, we have instituted a uniform school dress code that emphasizes modesty, rejects offensive messaging, and encourages good hygiene / safety / decorum.
1. Modesty:
- Clothing may not reveal private areas
- Yoga pants / leggings must be covered with a top that extends past the fingertips ○ Open shoulder tops may not be worn
- **No midsection exposed
- Shorts length must be past the fingertips
- Make-up and jewelry must not be overdone; piercings limited to girls’ ears
- Pajamas and pajama-type pants may not be worn
- Jeans with holes must have fabric backing behind the hole
- Sunglasses, hats, and other head coverings may not be worn
- For 5-8 physical education, appropriate shorts, shirts, and footwear must be worn
2. Messaging / Graphics:

Clothing may not promote alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or inappropriate secular media

Negative, crude, or disrespectful messages may not be displayed
3. Personal Care / Safety / Decorum:
● Clothing should be clean and properly-sized
● Hair should be clean and managed
● Footwear without a closed or strapped heel may not be worn
● Coats and jackets should not be worn in the classroom
Dress Code Violation Procedure:
1. Students will be discreetly approached about their clothing violation.
2. When possible, the teacher will direct a student to correct the violation.
3. Serious dress code violations will result in a parent being notified to bring in suitable clothing.
The teacher will record the violation through use of a discipline notice. After a third violation, a Detention will be assigned.

Cell Phone Policy (communication devices)
Students will not be allowed to carry or use cell phones during the school day (8:45-3:55). The use of devices such as smart watches may not be used for communications during this same time period. Phones are available in our office should a student need to contact their parent/guardian. Additionally, if you need to get a message to your child, you can do that by calling the main office. If a student brings a cell phone to school for use after school, it will be the STUDENT’S responsibility to ensure their phone remains OFF and stored in their locker during the school day.
Storage of cell phones ( If brought to RCS):

Devices are REQUIRED to be powered off and stored inside your locker upon arrival to school and must stay powered off and in your locker until the end of school.

RCS is NOT responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen devices.

Students are NOT allowed to carry cell phones in their pockets or use their cell phones
during school.
NOTABLE Consequences for misuse
Should a student choose to violate the RCS cell phone policy, the following will occur:

1st offense: Staff member secures the device and turns into the main office. The student may pick it up at the end of the day. A discipline notification will be emailed home.

2nd offense: Staff member secures the device and turns into the main office. A parent/guardian will be required to pick up the device from the main office. A Discipline Notice will be given to the student.

3rd offense: Staff member secures the device and turns it into the main office. The student will receive disciplinary action which may include detention(s), ISS, or other consequences. A parent/guardian will be required to pick up the device from the main office.

Additional offenses may result in the loss of the privilege of bringing cell phones to school, and additional level consequences such as but not limited to parent/guardian meeting with HOS, and/or board members.
Purpose: At RCS, our primary purpose is EDUCATE. Having fewer distractions allows the students the opportunity to focus, therefore providing the students with the best environment to learn about God’s world, grow in their faith and knowledge, and further HIS kingdom through service.
